Top 6 Christmas Destinations of the Year and What to Do There!

When some popular names like Forbes and Hotwire, that are trusted by many in the world give their lists of top 10 Christmas destinations, we should believe them. And more so when they have six names in common. However, it's my own opinion, your's may be a different one. I take these 6 places as the top Christmas destinations of the world as of now! Let's see, what you can do here if you decide to visit these places on Christmas!

New York City, N.Y.

Watch out for the famous Christmas traditions here including the most popular lighting at Rockefeller Center, Radio City Christmas Special, and Macy's annual Santaland display. Ice skate in Central Park or buy unique gifts at The Pond at Bryant Park. If you want it to be more than just spectacular, go to Dyker Heights in Southern Brooklyn. Here neighbors compete with each other to give you the most impressive Christmas displays.

Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Meet not one but two bearded old man who will load children with gifts- Sinterklaas and Santa Clause. Not only this, you can have an extended Christmas feel with Sinterklaas giving toys and other gifts to children on 5th December (Saint Nicholas’ Eve) every year and Santa Claus giving minor gifts on 25th December bringing along a warm feast for family and guests. Yes, in between these two dates, shop around in the brightly and amazingly lit Amsterdam, indulge in ice skating parties, and visit the Central Canal Ring where old day canal houses along with bars and cafe wait for you to make your Christmas unforgettable!

Santa Claus, Indiana

If you have been sending letters to Santa Claus in your childhood and even receiving their answers, you must go and see this 'Home of Santa.' The letters addressed to Santa Claus are answered by a group of 'Santa's Elves' here in this 'America's Christmas Hometown.' As the name suggests, it's truely Santa all over! Go to Santa themed shops, Santa Claus Museum and don't forget to visit Santa's Candy Castle. In this Santa's castle, enjoy gourmet chocolates, chat online with elves and see if your name is on the naughty or nice list. See the mesmerizing lights at Mistletoe Drive, a wooden rollercoaster and visit the Christmas-themed miniature golf course.

Lapland, Finland

If Santa Claus, Indiana is the 'American Christmas Hometown, Napapiiri in Lapland is the 'European Christmas Hometown,' the nearest point from North Pole where kids send their letters for Santa Claus! Two spots- Santa Claus Village and Santa Park are the must visit places here. Buy Santa's merchandise here, see reindeer and even enjoy reindeer sled rides, shake hands with Elf, and what more, spend time with Father Christmas himself but don't forget to make a reservation beforehand- he's a busy man and more so during Christmas!

San Juan, Puerto Rico

If a week or even a month is not enough for you to celebrate Christmas, you should head for San Juan where its a six week long affair starting day after Thanksgiving and ending with the feast of the three kings on January 6. You just need to stroll around to enjoy the festive spirit here. The Christmas decoration with colorful lights all around the town- home, streets, offices, trees- look just more that beautiful. It's all about parties, feasts, food, drinks! Enjoy the Christmas boat parade and unique holiday culinary delights' lechón asado' - roast pig on a spit, 'Tembleque'- a coconut pudding and 'Coquito' - sweet sap from a Chilean palm tree.

Aspen, Colorado

Just slide down the snowy mountains! That's what most of the tourists come here for- enjoying the chilled white Christmas! If you want more than that, you have plenty of it too. Witness enchanting music events, go shopping in the attractively decorated streets, just stroll, go ice skating, visit the world-class ski resorts here- not for 1 or 2 days but for whole 12 days.
